THE LONG GOODBYE

Just got some fantastic news: the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s film series will be doing a righteously awesome retrospective on one of the all-time good eggs of the acting world, the tall drink of Jewish water known as Elliot Gould!

Normally, this would just be, “Oh, cool. I can’t go to that.” But not this time, friends! For I will be in NYC from the 8th to the 10th, and on the 9th…they will be screening the 1973 so-good-it-hurts Robert Altman-directed THE LONG GOODBYE, where Gould reinvents Phillip Marlowe as a man out of time! That would be enough to get me there, but then, THEN…there will be a Q&A with Gould himself! He was in fucking M.A.S.H., people! LITTLE MURDERS! BOB & CAROL & TED & ALICE!!! He was married to BARBARA STREISAND!!!!!! Do you think he has some STORIES? Some ANECDOTES that might be worth your WHILE??? SOME INSIGHTS INTO THE HUMAN CONDITION BORN FROM YEARS WORKING AS AN ICONOCLASTIC STORYTELLER WITHIN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MASS MEDIA OUTLET OF THE LAST 100 YEARS???

Oh dear me. I seem to be raving.

THE LONG GOODBYE will be screening at 6:30 on Saturday, so if you’re in NYC, please join me for an evening of quintessential 70’s cinema. Here’s a link to the BAM site, where you can get tickets. Also note the list of other incredible movies showing during the three-week retrospective. I may not get to any of the other films, but I will schlep to Brooklyn for this action.

HE WAS IN AN INGMAR BERGMAN FILM!!!!! GOULD!!!
